Jafar Jay Chafi, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., age 85, passed away at his home in Pine Valley, Utah. He was born on February 9, 1928 in Babol, Iran to Sekineh Tcheragh-Ali and Sadegh Chafizadeh. He married Eugenia Curley in Yonkers, New York in 1961. In 1983 they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Jay received his Undergraduate Degree from the University of Paris. He then received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Montpellier in France. Jay continued his studies in Obstetrics and Gynecology in New York City. His life was dedicated to serving others through his medical profession helping those in need regardless of their circumstances. In retirement, he continued his practice through volunteer services at the Doctors Free Clinic and the Navajo Reservation at Chinle. His desire throughout his life was to serve those in need. Jay was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a deep love of Christ and tried to emulate the Savior by helping to heal others. He is survived by his wife Eugenia of St. George, UT, daughters: Marie-Angel Chafi of Cedar Hills, UT, Suzanne and Jeff Bertoldo of Pueblo, CO, 9 grandchildren: Douglas, Ashley, Brooke, Haley, Jared, Kristen, Lindsey, Stacey, and Michael and 10 siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 14, 2013 at 12 p.m. at the Green Valley LDS 8th Branch Chapel, 511 South Valley View Dr., St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held at the chapel, prior to services, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be on Tuesday, October 15, at Tonaquint Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
