In Loving Memory of James Coats Sr.

James Lee Coats Sr., born February 18, 1948 passed away on August 15, 2026, in St. George, Utah.

James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jessica Marie Coats, and his daughter, Afton Marie Coats.

He is survived by his four children including; Patrick Coats and James Coats, along with two additional children; his 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

James cherished his family, but he held a particularly special place in his heart for his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He was also a man who believed in giving back to the his community. His love of woodworking became a way to bring joy to children through his work with Toys for Tots, where he used his woodworking skills to help create gifts for those in need.

When James wasn’t spending time with his family or working with his hands, he could often be found fishing, woodworking, gardening, or enjoying a fried bologna sandwich with a Diet Coke. He will be remembered for the time he gave to other, the things he created with his own hands, and most of all the love he had for his family.

James leaves behind a family who will miss him deeply and carry his memory with them for generations to come.
