Dr. James "Jay" Harold Lyman of St. George, Utah (formerly Las Vegas, Nevada), passed away peacefully on August 10, 2020, of natural causes. He was 92. He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Renna, and his six children (and spouses) Craig, Robert, Stephen (Valerie), Douglas (Teri), Linda (Glenn Brown), and Laura (Monte Bledsoe), four step children Mike Whittington (Liz), Mark Whittington, Julie Whittington Hanson (Steve Hanson), and Jon Whittington (Neige), as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jay graduated with a degree in Liberal Arts from Brigham Young University. After his time in the service as a fighter pilot for the United States Navy, Jay completed medical school at the University of Utah. He had a successful family practice for many years in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was elected to the Clark County school board and served as its president
Jay served full-time missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Holland as a young man, and in South Africa with his wife, Mary, after his retirement.
Jay had many talents and abilities. He loved teaching Sunday School. He was an accomplished artist, a published author, and enjoyed playing Beethoven and Rachmaninoff on his grand piano. He had a love for aviation and built his own two-seated, bi-wing airplane (the Blue Jay) which he loved to fly. He also loved boating, sailing, and above all golf.
Jay was a man of intellect and great faith. He was loved by his family and his many friends and will be greatly missed.
A private family service will be held.
