Obituary

Ivins / Hurricane, UT - James Olie Noorlander of Ivins, formerly of Hurricane Utah, passed away February 9, 2010 at his home. He was born on December 23, 1919 to Johannes and Anna Olie Noorlander, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was one of eight siblings. James loved his country. He served in World War II in the U.S. Navy from 1940 to 1946. He was a Pearl Harbor Survivor on board the USS Ralph Talbot, and a life time member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors. He served in the Koran Conflict for 4 years in the U.S. Air Force. James received medals for Valor, Navy Cross, Navy Marine Corp. Medal, Purple Heart, plus campaign medals and ribbons. He also served with the Carlson Raiders as a volunteer during WWII for 4 months. James was Advance Chairman 3rd district for the Colorado Boy Scouts. Positions he held within the LDS Church include: Varsity Scout Leader, Priest Advisor, High Priest Teacher, 2nd Counselor "" High Priest Quorum, Home Teacher, Building Coordinator and Stake Missionary. James loved the Utah Jazz and USC football, and lived his life to the fullest. He is survived by this wife and childhood sweetheart Darleen Stewart Heit Noorlander, they were married October 12th, 1991 in the St. George Temple. Also survived by his children: James Michael Noorlander (Liza) of Fairview UT, Jody Ballard (Kenny) of Hurricane UT, Jill Lioi (Ty) of Lake Forest CA, and Bill Noorlander (Jennifer) of St. George UT. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 19, 2010 at11:00 a.m. at the Hurricane LDS Stake Center, 677 South 700 West, Hurricane, Utah. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Stake Center, prior to services. Interment will be at the Hurricane City Cemetery.
