IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Edwin
West
August 28, 1937 – January 31, 2023
Washington, Utah – James Edwin West was born on August 28, 1937. He was followed by his sister, Patricia Louise West on March 25, 1940. Their parents were Ula Marie Lee and Edwin Lanta West, descendants of pioneer settlers of Panaca, Nevada and Washingon, Utah.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jim served a 2 ½ year mission in Argentina, South America from 1958 to 1960. He spent many years doing family history research and temple work.
From 1961 to 1964, Jim served three years active duty in the United States Army. He was a radio-teletype intercept operator in the Army Security Agency.
Jim received a Bachelor of Arts Degree, with a Spanish Major, from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah in 1968. He received a Standard Secondary Teaching Credential, with majors in Spanish and English, in 1974, from California State University, Long Beach.
He was a high school, adult school and substitute teacher. English as a second language was his favorite teaching subject.
Jim's retirement came in 2003, at the age of 66. He moved to Washington, Utah, a warmer climate than Beaver, Utah, where his sister Patricia lives. He was close to her and her children. His only regret was that he never married and raised a family of his own.
During the second half of his retirement, Jim volunteered to tutor children in reading for 9 1/2 years at Sandstone and Panorama Elementary Schools in St. George, Utah.
Jim passed away on January 31, 2023.
Jim is survived by his sister, Patricia Harris and her children: Shea, Joel, Brady and Tyler Weaver and Brooke Mittelstadt.
