IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jan Marion
Graf
October 10, 1942 – January 21, 2022
Santa Clara, Utah - Jan Marion Graf, age 79, of Santa Clara, Utah passed away on January 21, 2022, in St. George, Utah.
Jan was born October 10, 1942, in St. George, Utah to Marion Jacob Graf & Beulah Smith Graf. He was the oldest of 5 children.
He was raised on a little farm in Santa Clara, Utah. He graduated from Dixie High School in 1960. From 1961 to 1963, he served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Scotland. Jan attended Dixie Jr. College in St. George, Utah and graduated with an Associate of Science degree and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in advertising and public relations from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He married his sweetheart, Gretchen, in the St. George Temple on December 28, 1966. A month later he was drafted into the army but chose to join the Air Force instead. His enlistment was delayed, allowing him to graduate from BYU in August 1967. He entered the Air Force 10 days later. Over the next four years he was a photographer for the United States Air Force in Korea and California during the Vietnam War.
After his tour of duty, he graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, in 1974. He practiced for a couple of years in Provo, Utah, then moved to St. George where he continued to practice chiropractic. In 1978 he transformed his career into teaching and helping people understand and learn the principle of forgiveness and the peace it brings and how it benefited their health and well-being. He has helped thousands of people around the world with his work.
Jan loved Santa Clara, Utah. He served as Santa Clara City mayor from 1978 to 1982. Jan spent many years helping his father on the family farm raising cattle and growing hay. He adored all things Boston Red Sox, Utah Jazz, and BYU but he and Gretchen loved supporting their children and grandchildren even more! Their annual trips to Lake Powell were some of their favorite memories. He and Gretchen were blessed with 8 children losing one at birth. They also raised a beautiful garden each year sharing their delicious peaches, pomegranates, pecans, and tomatoes with family and friends. He was fascinated by airplanes, tractors, sailboats, nature and the stars and was a humble artist, sketching many of these for his children when they were young.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gretchen McClean Graf; children: Jon (Nicole) Graf of St. George, Utah; David (Colleen) Graf of Richfield, Utah; Heidi (Dale) Tribe of Roosevelt, Utah; Megan (Trever) Johnson of Santa Clara, Utah; Jason (Lindsey) Graf St. George, Utah; Julie (Bucky) Flowers of Ivins, Utah; Tyler (Lindsey) Graf of Plain City, Utah; 27 grandchildren (1 coming in February), 4 great-grandchildren (4 coming this year); siblings: Paul (Ginny) Graf, Carol (Kirk) Heaton, Laura (Luis) Moreno, Bonnie (David) Peterson.
