IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jane Dibble
Valantine
October 19, 1932 – December 30, 2022
St George City – Jane was born on October 19, 1932, in Scotia, New York and passed away on December 30, 2022 in St. George, Utah. She was the daughter of Edwin Dibble and Ruth Dibble Gollaher and the sister of William Dibble, who all preceded her in Heaven.
Jane was raised in Glendale, California and graduated from Hoover High School, Glendale College and later Brigham Young University with a degree in Education. She returned to Glendale and taught second grade there until she retired to raise her children. She was an excellent teacher and instilled her students with wonderful habits and manners.
When Jane's brother Bill was coming back from his mission, she was so intent on seeing him, she ignored the BYU Dean's warning to not try to go home and found a ride to Glendale. On the way back to school, the car she was riding in had a serious accident between Barstow and Baker and Jane was critically injured. She received a priesthood blessing from a passing stranger to keep her alive until she could receive emergency care. Jane went on to live a long and full life.
Jane was extremely popular at BYU and had many suitors. Her husband Roy knew of her there, but it was five years later, back in Glendale, when he got the courage to ask her for a date. Many were interested, but he drove her to the Los Angeles Temple and asked for her hand in marriage. Jane replied, "I just can't say no!" Roy and her family are all very glad she didn't! They were married at the same temple on August 23, 1958. They went on to raise four children in Glendale, California, and they moved to St. George, Utah upon Roy's retirement from dentistry, where they have lived in Bloomington Hills for the past 29 years. Jane has been a lifelong active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served many callings including Relief Society President and supporting Roy's three-year Mission Presidency in Trinidad.
Jane recently celebrated her 90 th Birthday in October with her entire family both near and far, some visiting in person and the rest with the help of zoom technology. In honor of the day, Jane wrote an Ode to Silly Hats, which perfectly encapsulates her joy for life and fun-loving personality. She continued to make dear friends everywhere she went and will be missed and remembered by so many.
Along with husband Roy, Jane's family includes sister-in law, Marilyn Dibble; daughter, Diane Valantine Rappaport (Husband Aaron Rapport and grandchildren Audrey and Thomas); son, William Roy Valantine (who preceded her in Heaven in 2021) and wife Connie; daughter, Kathy Valantine Stepp and husband Robert Stepp; and son, John Edwin Valantine (Wife Lauren and grandchildren Ross and Grant).
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bloomington Hills 10 th Ward Chapel, 1222 East Brigham Road, St. George, UT. A visitation will be held Tuesday, prior to services, at 9:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 South Dixie Drive, St. George, Utah.
