Obituary

Hurricane, UT – Janeen Jocelyn, age 74, passed away on January 15, 2021. She was born on October 12, 1946 in Hurricane, Utah to Thomas Henry Semmens and Beulah Semmens.

Janeen graduated high school in Rosemead, California and met her eternal companion, Elliot William Jocelyn, in El Monte, California. They married on April 5, 1966 in the Los Angeles LDS Temple.

While Elliot was serving in the US Army during the Vietnam War, Janeen was pregnant with her first son and moved back to California to be with her parents, where she gave birth to her first son, Brian. A second son, Toby, was born in California. They decided to move to Utah to be with Janeen's family.

Janeen worked in Springdale while living in Virgin with her parents and then they moved to Cedar City for work. A third son, David, was born. They settled in the Hurricane Valley and raised their family there. Two more sons, Nathaniel and Adam, joined the family.

Janeen served in many LDS church callings and served in the community in many ways. She loved spending time with her mother and sister in Virgin and developed a love of tole painting. She began to offer classes and even opened a business in Hurricane teaching many people how to paint. She enjoyed traveling and enjoying time with many close friends. She helped her mother after her father passed away. After working jobs in Springdale, she would often stop in Virgin to visit her mother. Having five sons at home, Janeen developed a great love for her many nieces, and often loved to share a love of dolls and crafts with them. She was a dedicated grandmother and often helped with the raising and needs of her grandchildren. On numerous occasions, she would stay up past midnight waiting in line with grandchildren to be first in line for the release of a new blockbuster movie.

After retiring, Janeen developed a greater passion for traveling the world and was blessed to have many great experiences with friends and family. She will always be remembered for her love, compassion and charity.

She is survived by her five sons: Brian (Shirlyn), Toby (Rosanne), David (Shirlz), Nathaniel (Amanda), Adam (Samantha); 18 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter and another great-granddaughter on the way; sister, Judie Lee; and brother, Jerry Semmens. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elliot; father and mother; and brother, Jim.
