IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janet Ann
Mcallister Gillins
March 7, 1937 – January 3, 2026
Janet Ann McAllister Gillins was 88 years old when she passed away on January 3, 2026, in Cedar City, UT. She was born on March 7, 1937, in Cedar City, UT to Wanda Bowler and Edgar Clark McAllister. She was married to Elden Wallace Gillins on March 30, 1956, in Las Vegas, NV.
Janet grew up in Pioche, NV where her father worked in the Copper Mines. When Janet was a teenager, her father left for barber college in Utah, and she worked in the family owned "Polar Bear" which was a café on Main Street in Pioche. Janet attended Lincoln County High School in Panaca, NV. Just after Janet graduated from high school, the family moved to Las Vegas, NV, where her Dad opened a Barber Shop.
Janet and Elden had dated throughout high school and these sweethearts made it official when they got married in March of 1956. They were two crazy-for-each-other 19-year-olds. This young family lived in Pioche, NV, where Clark was born, moved to Price, UT, where Lori was born and then to Las Vegas, NV where Julie and Michael were born. Elden became a Policeman for the city of Las Vegas in early 1959.
Janet actively served throughout her life in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a Primary Teacher, Primary President, Young Women's Advisor, Relief Society Teacher, Relief Society President, and Gospel Doctrine Teacher.
In November of 1964, this little family took steps to be together forever, when they were sealed for time and all eternity in the St. George Temple.
In 1978, Janet and Elden moved to Washington, UT where Dad could retire and they would have more room for grandchildren. In 1981, Janet took a job at Dixie State Bank as a teller and new accounts specialist. She stayed with the bank for 10 years and really liked the friends and relationships she made there.
While Janet was still working at the bank, she developed a passion for scrapbooking. By last count, there are about 50 large scrapbooks that Janet put together. You can sense the love, history, and sentiment on each page.
Janet was also a master at caring and taking care of those members of her family that needed it most. Her devotion to Elden and to Clark were unfailing, and she showed us all how to serve each and every day.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Wanda and Clark McAllister, her brother Edgar Clark McAllister, her husband Elden Wallace Gillins, and one granddaughter.
Janet was very proud of her posterity. Her grandchildren meant the world to her. On this day, she is survived by a sister, Sydnee Gaye Smith (David). She is survived by her children Elden Clark Gillins, Lori Gaye Vanus (Craig), Julie Marie Gillins, Michael Lonn Gillins (Mary). She doted on and is survived by 10 grandchildren. At this time there are 17 great-grandchildren that will help us keep our memory of Janet, of Mom, of Grandma, and of GiGi alive.
