Janette "Jan"
Nelson
February 14, 1950 – April 18, 2020
Janette "Jan" Nelson passed away at St. Mary's Medical Center in Green Bay, WI on April 18, 2020 at the age of 70.
Jan is survived by her loving husband, Donald Nelson. Jan and Don were married in Santa Barbara, CA in October of 1994. She is preceded in death by her father, Max Johnson, and mother, Madge Johnson.
Jan is lovingly remembered by her children: Angela Berke, Jefferson Long, Amelia Kluss and her husband Phil, Jason Long and his wife Megan, Jeremiah Long and his wife Caitlin, Elizabeth "Betsy" Ayotte and her husband Wayne, and Kenneth Nelson; her grandchildren: Hannah, Isabelle, Lily, Ethan, Adam, Ashton, Max, Esme, Everlie, Henry, Finn, Emilia, and Sophie; sister, Betty Richardson and her husband Brett; and sister-in-law, Carla Johnson.
Jan was born in Provo, Utah on Valentine's Day in 1950 and that is why we think she had such a big heart. She attended Provo High and graduated in 1968 and from there she began her higher learning at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
Jan spent her early life in Utah before moving to California where she enjoyed raising her family, going to the beach, and watching epic sunsets. It was in California where she met the love of her life, Don, and they settled in Ventura, CA where they would regularly line and country dance. The two are quite the pair and were still able to cut a rug this year! Jan and Don left California, moved to Heber, UT to build the log cabin of their dreams, then to Appleton, WI, before they finally retired in St. George, UT where they made many close friends. Jan was diagnosed with dementia in late 2017 and moved into the memory care home, The Wentworth, in St. George. In late 2018 Jan and Don moved back to Wisconsin to be lovingly and painstakingly cared for by Betsy and Wayne.
Jan was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithful until the end. She was a great example to all those that came in contact with her and was always willing to share her testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. She loved watching romantic comedy movies, ice cream (especially Iceberg), HGTV or home improvement shows, CHOCOLATE, dolls, Green Bay Packer games, fresh flowers, spending time in nature, strawberries, cordial cherries, being with family, but most of all: "her honey" Don. Her smile and laughter would always brighten the room. She was a caring person and was always ready to share a smile or lend a hand if someone was in need. She sincerely cared about others' feelings and would go the extra 10 miles to make someone feel special and welcome.
We are happy you have made it home, but we miss you terribly here on Earth. We love you Jan!
