St. George, UT - Jarilyn Rae Payne Willie, wife of John C. Willie, passed away on October 30, 2013 at her home in St. George, Utah, surrounded by many of her family members. Jarilyn was born in Brigham City, Utah on June 16, 1941 to Raymond Francis Payne and Elvira "Elva" Roundy Payne. She grew up in Brigham City and graduated from Box Elder High School. She obtained a bachelors Degree in Child Development from Utah State University. While there, she met and married her husband, John. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 30, 1961.
After graduation, they made their home in southern California, first in San Bernardino, and later in South Pasadena before moving with two children to St. George, Utah in 1966. Jarilyn became the mother of six children including: Scott Willie of Mesquite, Nevada, Deanne Willie of Salt Lake City, Utah, Bryan Willie (deceased), Janet (Jerome) Gallegos of Las Vegas, Nevada, Karen (Scott) Taylor of St. George, Utah and Craig (Tanya) Willie of Stansbury Park, Utah. She was the beloved grandmother of 9 grandchildren: Jaden, Spencer, Brooke, Jaron, Megan, Grant, Jakob, Emily and Amber.
Jarilyn held several positions over the years, including mother and home maker, the original Boy Scouts of America Store Manager, Manager over the scouting department at the Outdoor Outlet sporting goods store, and as manager of the Washington County survey map depository.
Always an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints wherever she lived, she served in many capacities including Primary presidency, Primary teacher, Young Womens Secretary, Relief Society President, Junior Sunday School Coordinator, visiting teacher, Home Teacher with her husband, and Sunday School teacher with her husband at the Ridge View Gardens Assisted Living Center. She also received the Golden Gleaner Award
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Morningside LDS Stake Center, 881 South River Road, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held on Sunday, November 3, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., and on Monday, at the Stake Center from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services. Interment will be held at the St. George City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
