St. George, Utah - We mourn the passing and celebrate the life of Jay Ramsay, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, born June 19, 1921 in Glendale, Utah to Arthur Grant Ramsay and Bertha Merrill Ramsay. He was the second of nine children and is survived by brothers, Clare, Earl, and Douglas and sisters Edith and Laree. His early years were spent helping the family on the farm and ranch. Then as a young man he spent several years herding sheep on Cedar Mountain and the Arizona strip. Jay joined the Army during World War II serving in occupied France and Germany from 1944 to 1946. He joined the Utah National Guard and served with the 213th Field Artillery unit in Korea. He retired from the Army with the rank of Major. He married the late Lorraine Jorgensen of Orderville, Utah on October 11, 1946. After returning home from Korea he took his young family to Logan Utah where he graduated with a civil engineering degree. He began working for the Soil Conservation Service and retired after 30 years, working in both Utah and New Mexico. He also spent two years in Afghanistan designing and building farm irrigation systems. Jay and Lorraine served an LDS mission to Southern Nevada and were instrumental in the conversion of several families. He leaves behind his children and their spouses Clayton and Nancy Ramsay of Washington, Utah; Roleen and Darrell Rasband of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Nannette and Thomas Lindsey of Yorba Linda, California. He has 13 grand children and 31 great grand children. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 259 N. Mall Drive, St. George, Utah . Visitations will be held Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and on Saturday, prior to services, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Chapel.
