St. George, Utah
- Jean Williams Wilkey peacefully passed away Monday morning, April 18, 2016, after a life filled with faith, family, and love.
Born in Grantsville, UT, Jean was raised by loving parents, with her older sister, two brothers, and Grandparents. Her youth was filled with various experiences from the Greatest Generation, sharing fond memories with friends and family later in life. After attending BYU, Jean served an LDS Mission in the New England area for eighteen months, and worked at the LDS Church Offices upon returning home.
She was quickly swept off her feet in 1950 by Eugene "E" Wilkey's humor, charm, and kindness. Eight years her senior, E reassured her, if things didn't work out, he wouldn't be around too much longer.
The Genes settled in Nephi, UT and raised seven children who became the center of their lives. In 1982, the couple relocated to St. George, UT and nine years later served an LDS Mission in the Texas, Fort Worth area. The couple returned to spend the rest of their lives serving family, and telling everyone their grandchildren and great-children came from good Genes.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene and her daughter, Jeanette. She is survived by her children: Mark (Cathy), James (Betty), David (Lynne), Rex (Sue), Diane (Dean), Julie (Dallas), forty-one grandchildren, and forty-five great grandchildren (at current count).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks everyone to buy a celebratory Pepsi or Coke for a Grandma.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at the Hurricane LDS 21st Ward Chapel located at 320 North 3400 West. A visitation will be held Saturday at the Chapel from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in Tonaquint Cemetery.
