Jeanenne Jones Cox

Our beautiful mother Jeanenne Jones Cox, 90, gave our dad the best Father’s Day gift ever as she passed from her earthly existence into his loving arms on June 21, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Jeanenne was born August 2, 1935, in Cedar City, Utah, the second child and only daughter born to James Chester Jones and Nola Isom Jones. She lived in various places during her childhood including Cedar City, Utah, Rocksprings, Wyoming, and Pioche, Nevada with her family eventually settling in St. George, Utah. At that time Jeanenne was high school age moving from Cedar to Dixie High school where they were each other’s biggest rivals. It was there that she met her soon to be high school sweetheart Walter Cox.

After Walt and Jeanenne graduated high school they were married in the St. George temple on June 5th, 1953. After being married two years, she worked and supported Walt as he was called to serve a 2-year church mission. Jeanenne also worked various jobs throughout their marriage supporting Walt as he pursued a career in education. She always said he may have earned his Doctorate Degree, but she earned her PHT degree (Put Husband Through.)

Jeanenne was known for her excellent shorthand skill that she continued to use throughout her life that only she could decipher as it is somewhat of a lost form of writing. She was an amazing pianist and seamstress.

Walt and Jeanenne built a life together centered around faith, family, and hard work. She was a devoted mother, blessed with four children that she and Walt always supported, along with grandchildren, in activities and countless ballgames.

She served in many church capacities, cared for others and gave selflessly of her time and talents. She was loving, energetic, thoughtful, known for her beautiful white hair and classy style and she loved anything PINK!! She always displayed the pure love of Christ. She would say “Only a life lived and loved for others is a life worth living!” She and Walt faithfully served two missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one at the Family History Center in St. George, and one in the Philippines. Together they helped 100+ young men achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, many of which requested them as their mentor. Jeanenne and Walt were very loyal to “Dixie” and spent countless hours of political and community service to the community that meant so much to them.

She was preceded in death by Walter, her beloved husband of 68 years, her parents, and brothers DeVon and Ronald. She is survived by four children, Ronalee (Kent) Black, Randy Cox (Mandy), Jill (Jody) McDonald, Tiffany (Travis) Graff, nephew Brent (Holly) Keenen. 15 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

As our mother lovingly served and cared for so many, the care was lovingly reciprocated to her in her time of need. She would tell everyone “Just don’t get OLD.” Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, Jeanenne lived the last year of her life in memory care at the Abbington Senior Living facility. Care was also provided by Summit Hospice staff. The family would like to thank all of her caregivers (especially nurse Paula Vu) for the tender care rendered to their mother.
