Obituary

Jeffrey David Rehn, 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Washington, Utah, on September 8, 2024.

Jeff was born on February 25, 1949, in Spokane, Washington, to Eldrich L. "Bud" Rehn and Meryl Dunsmore Rehn. He married Marla A. Mellon on April 22, 1971, and they had two children, Carissa Rehn Rapp and Gregory Michael Rehn. They later divorced in 1984.

On May 24, 1986, Jeff married his eternal companion, Chanel "Shelley" Searle, in Centerville, Utah. He was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 11, 1987, and on March 12, 1988, Jeff and Shelley were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple. Jeff was a devoted and active member of the Church, faithfully serving in various callings.

After graduating from Shadle Park High School in Spokane, Jeff moved to Tacoma, Washington, where he worked as a lineman for the Northern Pacific Railroad. After a few years, he returned to Spokane to attend Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington.

Jeff was employed by Acme Materials and Construction for 25 years, where he was honored to receive a 1,000,000-mile accident-free driving award from the National Safety Council, on two separate occasions.  A proud union member, he played a key role in negotiating contracts between the Union and Acme for many years. Unfortunately, due to health issues, Jeff retired early at the age of 50. Despite facing many physical challenges throughout his adult life, Jeff handled them with dignity and remained determined to live his life to the fullest.

Jeff cherished his summers growing up at Lake Coeur d'Alene in Idaho. Some of his fondest memories were made there with family, including his parents, sister, grandparents, and cousins, as they spent countless hours playing, boating, and fishing at the lake.

He had a wide-ranging passion for hunting, whether with archery, rifle, or shotgun. Jeff hunted deer, elk, bear, upland birds, and even managed to take down an occasional coyote from his bedroom window—nailing it right through the screen! He was also an avid fisherman who loved fly fishing and became quite skilled at tying his own flies. In the winter, Jeff could often be found ice fishing with friends. He spent many adventurous weekends on horseback with his brother-in-law, Grant, packing into the wilderness mountains of Idaho.

In 2002, Jeff and Shelley moved from Spokane, Washington, to Washington, Utah, where he enjoyed his early retirement. He always felt at home in Dixie, surrounded by its beautiful red rocks, palm trees, and blue skies.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Shelley; his daughter, Carissa Rapp (Mike) of Colbert, Washington; his son, Greg Rehn (Mandi) of Mead, Washington; six grandchildren; his sister, Cindy Rehn McSmith; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to his doctor, Michael Codiga, and his hospice nurse, Michelle Drake, for their tender care.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Northbridge Chapel, 1080 West Arlington Street, Washington, Utah. Friends and family may call on Thursday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will follow at Washington City Cemetery, 300 Park View Drive, Washington, Utah.
