Obituary

St. George, Utah JoAn Drucilla Buckmiller Brooks, 78, passed from this earth, to our Father in Heaven, on December 28, 2018.  She was born July 10, 1940, in Glendale, CA, a daughter to LeRoy John Buckmiller, DDS and Jessie Howard.  She married William Lee Hyde "Bill" August 15, 1966.  Later she married Paul Brooks in the St. George, UT Temple on November 24, 2000.

JoAn was raised on a farm in Holladay, Utah. Her education included Olympus High School, Dixie State College and Brigham Young University where she obtained a degree in Elementary Education. She also attended the University of Utah but repented of this later in life.

Working as a teacher in Monticello, UT she met and later married Bill and eventually settled in Lovelock, NV, where she raised her family of eight children.  She loved to exercise, sew, bake, play piano and swim.  She often earned recognition for swimming fifty miles during the summer.

After moving to St. George she taught at East Elementary and later supervised student teachers through Dixie State College.

Her love was the gospel of Jesus Christ, which she instilled in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  In her later years she served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with husband, Paul.

She is survived by her husband, Paul; and her children: Jill, Las Vegas, Nevada, Russell (Kori) St. George, Utah, Kurtis (Tina), Las Vegas, Nevada, Nathan (Shannon) Hughesville, Maryland, Lisa (Robert) Carter, Ahwatukee, Arizona, Laura (Dean) Jolley, Sherwood, Oregon, David (Tiffani) Spokane, Washington and Jessica (Joseph) Starr, Norman, Oklahoma; brothers: Jack, Holladay, Utah, and Roger, Rancho Cucamonga, California; sisters: Mary, Pleasant Grove, Utah and Ruth, Lehi, Utah and sister-in-law, Donna Buckmiller; step-children: Toni (Steve) Caplin, Warren (Benita) Brooks, Kalynn (Cortney) Snow, Jason (Sharon) Brooks, Walter (Jennifer) Brooks, Karlinda (Jason) Madrid, Bennett (Shasta) Brooks, and Dorene (Nick) Tobler. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Howard; sister, Donna Lovell and brother-in-law, Ferron Lovell.

A special thanks to the doctors, nurses and care givers for their kindness and concern for Mom.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Panorama Ward Chapel, 259 North Mall Drive, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and Saturday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery.
