Obituary

Joan Marie Kottraba, 73, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, daughter and friend passed away on November 3, 2017 after battling cancer for 3 years.
Joan was born on April 20, 1944, to Edward and Ruth Dussaman in Blythe, CA.
Joan was proudly the Valedictorian of her high school class in Parker, Arizona. She attended the nursing program at San Diego State University. She was married to Robert TF Knoblock until his passing in 1982. She later married Lawrence Kottraba.
She was able to stay at home while raising her 7 children until the youngest was in school. She worked for the Iron County School District for 22 years. She had the privilege of working as an aide to several children with special needs. Mrs "K" loved these students dearly. She served faithfully in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Wherever Joan was, she made friends. She had the ability to make everyone feel loved. She was the kind of person that would scan the congregation on Sunday and see if there was anyone she didn't know. If so, she would make her way over, introduce herself and welcome them with a smile and a hug. She was so grateful for all of her dear friends that she had made through the years.
Joan had many loves in her life. One of her biggest was her sweet pup, Hershey. She found this dirty, stinky, matted mutt at the pound and it was love at first sight for the both of them. Hershey was always right next to Joan. Even in her last days. He never left her side unless he was forced to. Another one of her loves was reading. She shared this passion with her daughters. Another love was cooking, especially baking! Her house was usually stocked with her famous chocolate chip cookies. This love turned into a small business that she started with 3 of her friends called Taste of Home.             Joan was blessed to have an extraordinary husband for 35 years. Joan and Larry had a loving and tender relationship, seen by all who knew them. Larry's favorite band had a song with the line, "Love everybody and make them your friend." He thinks that describes Joan perfectly.
Joan is survived by, the love of her life, her spouse, Lawrence Kottraba, her seven children Shauna (Ivan) Spencer, Brennan (Michelle) Knoblock, Darian (Eric) Blackner, Kendra (Tom) Vaughn, Tory (Jessica) Knoblock, Randi (Christopher) Foukas, Cara (Tui) Siliva, 21 ½ grandchildren, 2 ½ great grandchildren, her mother Ruth Dussaman, sister Linda (David) Pickett, and brother Bill (Lourdes) Dussaman.   She is preceded in death by her father, Edward Dussaman and her late husband of 15 years, Robert TF Knoblock.
