Washington, Utah – John W. Averett, 84, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 10, 2025, from dementia. He was born on July 14, 1941, in Washington, Utah to John W. Averett, Sr. and Ella Ferguson Averett. During his childhood he lived in Boulder City, Nevada and Washington, Utah.

He married Rosalyn Fife on April 20, 1962, in Cedar City, Utah. They were blessed with two children, Kathy Jo and Chris.  John worked for many years for UDOT and retired in 1991. He then went to work for Pacific Supply and Western Rock. He was a member of the first Washington City Volunteer Department. His favorite hobby was horses. He always had some kind of farm animal, a tractor, and a dog.

John is survived by his children: Kathy Jo (Johnnie) Cowley and Chris Averett of Washington, Utah; and sister, Marian Miller of Henderson, Nevada. He is also survived by three grandsons: Kasey (Brittney) Cowley, Kaden (Kamille) Cowley, Shad (Tyler) Averett; and one great-grandson, Colby Cub. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosalyn; sister, Louise; brother, Robert; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at the Washington City Cemetery, 300 Park View Drive, Washington, Utah.
