Hurricane, Utah - John Brent Davis passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022, at his home in Hurricane, Utah surrounded by family. He was born February 18, 1936, to Orson Pratt and Olive (Bitter) Davis at his parent's log cabin in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was the sixth of eight children in the family.
Brent attended school in Idaho Falls, graduating from Idaho Falls High School in 1954. He was active in drama and track during his high school years. He attended BYU from 1954-1956. He served in the New England States Mission from 1956-1958. Serving the majority of his mission in Nova Scotia, which always held a special place in his heart. After returning home, he resumed his education at BYU, graduating in 1962 with BES in Electrical Engineering, which was a five-year degree.
On August 26, 1959, he married Carolyn Lasson in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They have four children. He spent his young life living in Idaho Falls. As an adult, he lived in Utah, Idaho, and Oregon. He and Carolyn raised their children mostly on the beautiful Oregon coast in the town of Reedsport. After many years on the coast, they retired to the Hurricane Valley to be closer to family.
Brent's career as an Electrical Engineer first took him back to his hometown of Idaho Falls where he worked for the Idaho Falls Power and Light. The remainder of his career he worked for Central Lincoln Public Utility District on the Oregon Coast for 30 plus years. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Oregon and served on several committees and commissions in that capacity.
Brent was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served valiantly in many capacities. A few of his callings were Bishop, Seminary and Gospel Doctrine teacher, High Councilman, Ward indexing representative, and a Temple worker in the St. George Temple. During his time in Oregon, he served in the Reedsport Booster Club and danced with Carolyn in their Square Dance club. He loved to work with his hands on his model trains and making wood toys for his grandchildren. He could fix anything.
Brent is survived by his children: Leanne (Tom) Collet, Bruce Davis, and Jay Brent (Monique) Davis; grandchildren: Bretton (Sharon) Moosman, TJ Davis, Kate (Russell) Sneddon, Tyler Davis, Joshua Davis, Olivia Davis, Grace Davis; five great granddaughters; brother, Reed (Joan) Davis; sister, Margaret (Larry) Weist; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his wife, Carolyn; his parents, Orson and Olive Davis; daughter, Diana Davis; and siblings: Joseph, Orson, Donna, Gordon, and Bruce.
Graveside services will be held Friday, November 4, 2022, 1:00 p.m. in the Toquerville Cemetery, Toquerville, Utah.
