St. George, UT - John Dennis Dove ,88, October 21, 2012 in St. George. He was born August 26, 1924 in Warren, PA to Clarence James Dove and Elizabeth Gregor. He married Sadie Josephine Zabaldo on May 21, 1949.
He was raised in western Pennsylvania and was the brother to six sisters. He graduated from Youngsville High School in 1941. He served in WWII as a Radioman 1st class. He received accreditation from IBM Business School and later received a diploma from the UCLA School of Business Management. John programmed the first computer, Univac 1 at Bell Aircraft in Lewiston, NY. He retired from his career in 1981 from Security Pacific Bank as the Vice President of Data Processing. John was of Catholic faith. He moved his family from NY to CA in 1964, then retired to St. George with his wife Sadie in 1986.
His hobbies included archery, wood working, fishing, camping, equestrian activities, raising horses, gaming and playing guitar. He was interested in investing and watching college football. His favorite college team was the fighting Irish of Notre Dame. John enjoyed many outings always centered around his family. Many years he traveled across country in trucks and RV's enjoying the country and spending time visiting his family on the East Coast. Other fond memories were spent in the Tehapachi Mountains at the family's ranch.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sadie; children: John (Teresa) Dove of CO, Kathleen Riddle of CA, Michael (Juliana) Dove of CA, Joel (MaryKay) Dove of UT, Peter (Christine) Sheffield of CA; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Edward Dove.
Memorialservices will be Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. George Catholic Church, 259 West 200 North, St. George, Utah. All are welcome to the service and also a reception honoring John's life immediately following the services at the Mesas Townhomes Clubhouse, 301 South 1200 East. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dual King Ranch Foundation (www.dualkingranch.com) which benefits troubled youth. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
