St. George, Utah - John Emery Gislason passed away September 3, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Seattle, Washington March 20, 1931. Jewell married Johns step-father Mundi Gislason. John served in the Navy Reserve and Army during the Korean War. While in the Army he went to Alaska. John married Doloris Minard in 1958. They divorced a few years later. John then moved to Seattle where he met Rita A. Kimball and they were married April 16, 1960. Rita passed away on December 12, 1998. John met Marjorie Moffitt and they married March 20, 1999. John worked as a bus driver in the City of Detroit, Michigan. He went to brick laying school, and was a mail carrier in Inkster, Michigan as well as Auburn, Washington. John worked for Safeway and a Treadwell Stores. He ans Rita started their own Collection Company. John worked as a fireman for Boeing Aircraft for 27 years where he retired as a Fire Officer (Lieutenant). John joined the LDS Church in December 2001. He follows the teachings and is always at hand when needed. John and Marjorie were Employment Directors for the Pine View Stake. They served a Mission in the Locator Mission. He served as Riverside Branch Clerk. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; his children: Mindy (Shuster) Gislason, Connie Parks and her daughter, Anne Erho, Timothy J. (Kia) Gislason and their three daughters and three granddaughters; step-children: Susan (Roger) Alfrey, Scott (Vickie) Craw; nine step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverside LDS Branch Chapel, 2434 East Riverside Drive, St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Friday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in memory of John to The American Cancer Society.
