John "Jack"
Jones
Jun 17, 1934 — Jun 21, 2026
Our beloved John A. Jones “Jack”, husband. Father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and cherished patriarch of our family, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026 at the age of 92.
Jack was born on June 17, 1934, to John Jones and Sara Jane Albertson. From an early age, he learned the values that shaped the man we loved so deeply – hard work, honesty, loyalty, faith and service. He did more than teach these principles; he lived them quietly and consistently, leaving an example that will continue to bless his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jack proudly served his country for 40 years in the Utah Air National Guard, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. His military service reflected his deep sense of duty, steady leadership and commitment to something greater than himself.
Service was woven into every part of Jack’s life. He faithfully served many church callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including as bishop, a calling he cherished and fulfilled with love and dedication. Through his faith, compassion and quiet strength, he touched countless lives and lifted those around him.
Jack was also a dedicated community leader. He served as president of Taylorsville Little League and founded Taylorsville Babe Ruth League, creating opportunities for countless young athletes. Whether in his church service, military career, or community involvement, Jack had a gift for bringing people together and making a lasting difference.
Nothing mattered more to Jack than his family. He was sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple to his sweetheart, Marlene, and he devoted his life to her for 73 years. Together they raised two children and built a legacy of faith, love, devotion and family that will continue for generations.
Jack was the kind of father and grandfather every child hopes to have. He rarely missed a baseball game, dance recital, school event, or important milestone. When one of his grandchildren was involved, Jack was there – smiling proudly, cheering them on, and making each one feel deeply loved, seen and supported.
Jack was a true and loyal friend who built relationships that lasted a lifetime. His friendships were filled with kindness, laughter, sincerity, and genuine care. To know Jack was to know you had a friend for life.
When he wasn’t spending time with family and friends, Jack would often be found on a golf course. He never met a course he didn’t love and enjoyed every opportunity to play. He also loved the New York Yankees, Johnny Mathis music and family vacations.
Above all, Jack will be remembered for the way he lived. He showed us what it means to show up, work hard, keep your word, serve others and love your family with your whole heart. His influence lives on in his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and in all who were blessed to know him.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Marlene Jones; his son, Mike Jones (Suzanne); his daughter, Jackie Mower (Jim); his grandchildren: Brian Jones, Tracy Crosman (Josh), Chris Mower (Alli), and Danielle Pitt (Ryan); 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Lynn Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom brought him immeasurable joy.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepmother, and sisters Myrle, Beverly, Lavoy and Lyla.
Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Snow Canyon Retirement Community, the dedicated nursing staff, and the compassionate hospice team. Your kindness, dignity, friendship, and loving care brought comfort not only to Jack but to our entire family during his final chapter. We will always be grateful for the Love and support you showed him.
While we will miss Jack dearly, we rejoice in the knowledge that through the gospel of Jesus Christ and the sacred covenants he made, families can be together forever. We find comfort in knowing that he has returned home to his Heavenly Father and that bonds of love and family he treasured so deeply continue beyond this life.
Until that joyful day when we are reunited with him, we will carry his love with us and do our best to honor his beautiful example of faith, service, loyalty, and love.
