IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John William
Vinzant
January 22, 1949 – June 18, 2025
John William Vinzant, age 76, passed away peacefully at the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins, Utah. Born on January 22, 1949, in Hawthorne, California, John was the beloved son of Paul and Shirley Vinzant. At the age of twelve, John moved with his family from California to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he spent most of his life.
He graduated from Western High School and attended college at Nevada Southern University (UNLV). On November 14, 1968, John married the love of his life, Mary Kathryn Vinzant (Kathy), in Las Vegas. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and love.
John was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a third-generation plasterer, having first held a trowel at the age of six. In 1969, John was drafted by the United States Army to serve our country in the Vietnam War. Upon return, he worked for his father plastering pools and would eventually take over the family business, Vinzant's Pool Plastering. About eight years ago, John and Kathy made Santa Clara, Utah, their home.
John had a deep love for music, picking up the saxophone at the age of 8. He was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and UNLV Runnin' Rebels, loved fishing, enjoyed a round of golf, and never turned down a Diet Coke. Above all, John cherished his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Shirley Vinzant; sisters: Barbara Knight and Dona Payne; and his beloved granddaughter, MaKenzie Hanover.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy; their four children: Stacey Hanover (John); Veronica Wells (Michael); Melissa Vinzant-Sanchez (Jeffrey); Sherill Shouweiller (Michael); and his sister, Edna Corley. He was a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, with another expected in October.
The family extends heartfelt thanks for the love, condolences, and generous donations received during this time. The family is especially grateful for the exceptional care that was provided to John from the Southern Utah Veterans Home. Your support has brought comfort and peace during a time of great loss.
