Obituary

John Thomas Westbrook, age 76, passed away on February 9, 2013 at Dixie Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 31, 1936 in Topeka, Kansas to Alma Gerber and Harry Westbrook, both deceased. The family moved to Denver, Colorado when he and his younger sister, Janet S. Jerrold, were small children. He attended all boys Catholic High School in Canyon City, Colorado. John joined the Army after high school. He was an aviator in the service and upon his honorable discharge, he moved to San Francisco. There he worked for United Airlines as a mechanic and later there in administration for twenty years. He married Jeanette Northcutt on April 4, 1980 and together operated their fourteen acre horse boarding and breeding ranch in Pleasanton, California. The couple moved permanently to St. George on July 7, 2007 after having a second home here since 2001. John has been active in Railroad Clubs both in St. George and Dayton NV., where he was also a member of the Historical Society. He is beloved by all who knew him as someone who enjoyed others in social conversation and joined causes such as the one for immigration reform. He was excellent with computers and worked in their family Real Estate Rental business. John had one daughter by his first wife, and this daughter is deceased. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette, and his only sibling, Janet Jerrold, who has four children. There are three nieces and one nephew, 15 great nieces and nephews, and 28 great-great nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Metcalf Mortuary Chapel from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and also Wednesday, February 20, prior to services from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., followed by the funeral Mass at the St. George Catholic Church, 259 North 200 West, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Tonaquint Cemetery.
