St. George, Utah - Jon Andrew Belnap passed away October 19, 2014. He was born along with a twin brother, Don, on October 13, 1937 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Lawrence Oliver and Adelia Matilda Belnap. His twin brother passed away three weeks later on November 1, 1937. Complications incident to his birth left Jon challenged physically and mentally, but his cheerful friendly attitude compensated for his difficulties. Everyone was his friend. He grew up on the family farm in Moreland, Idaho along with his parents and younger brother, Burke and sister, Judy. He had a great love of sports and while he was limited in his skills he made up the difference by being the best manager for the school team. He volunteered for many years as an umpire for little league baseball. In 1969, he married Eileen Shore in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They made their home in Blackfoot, where Jon found satisfaction working in the Blackfoot Deseret Industries. They later divorced. Jon moved to St, George where under the supervision of WARC and TURN he was able to have an enjoyable and successful life. While living in St. George he spent time working for The Spectrum Newspaper, Dixie College and the Hospital in various custodial and support work assignments. He found particular satisfaction working under the direction of the Red Rock Center for Independence as a peer counselor. He served on a number of committees supporting special needs citizens in the community including the Utah State Consumer Agency. He was active for many years on the Region Single Adult Committee of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When his mobility and health declined, Jon took up residence at the Kolob Care and Rehabilitation Center where he enjoyed the association of the staff and residents. He was affectionately considered the sheriff as he reminded various staff members and residents of the rules and duties at the Care Center. Jon is survived by his brother, Burke (Darlene) of St. George; sister, Judith Sperry, of American Fork, UT; ten nephews and nieces; and thirty-one grand nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Don. Warm felt appreciation is extended to all who have touched Jon for good including the staffs at WARC, TURN, RedRock Center for Independence, Kolob Care and Rehabilitation Center, and Hospice. His life was enriched by their devoted conscientious and loving care. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Wednesday, prior to services, at 10:30 a.m. at Metcalf Mortuary. Interment will be held Friday, October 24, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Moreland Cemetery located near Jon's childhood home in Moreland, Idaho.
