Obituary

St. George, UT - Joseph Glen McAllister, age 94, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Saturday, September 18, 2010. He was the fifth of six children, born in Summit, Utah to Graham Brown McAllister and Sarah Aseneth Chamberlain on December 3, 1915. His early years were spent in Summit and Delta, Utah. When he was ten years old his mother passed away. He came to St. George when he was 15 to stay with his sister, Lucy, and was able to secure a job in Gunlock working for Vern Leavitt. He worked at several odd jobs, making molasses, herding sheep, ranch work, shearing sheep, harvesting hay and corn. He married Rose Leavitt on October 8, 1940 in the St. George Temple. They moved to Las Vegas where he worked for Sears and Basic Magnesium. also, he sold Kitchen Kraft, Life Insurance and worked for Anderson Jewelers, the Utah Power Company, Ashby & McQuaid and Lunt Motor Company. He worked for Lunts for 25 years. He loved to play horseshoes and was a member of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association, winning many tournaments and trophies. He liked to pick pinenuts (hard work!) And took several people on these excursions. He was an active member of the LDS Church and in Gunlock he served in three bishoprics and was Bishop for 6 ½ years. He also worked as scoutmaster and was in the scouting program for 20 years. He also loved the people of the St. George 3rd Ward and served in many positions until his health didnt permit. Glen felt that his greatest accomplishment was his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Rose, daughters: Donna Lou (Gary) Colton, Judy Lynn (Bill) Hart, Marsha Rose (David) Leavitt, son; Russell Glen (Nancy) McAllister, 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 siblings and their spouses. Love you, Dad!! Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. George LDS 3rd Ward Chapel(Red Hills Chapel), 200 West 500 North, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Friday, September 24th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel, prior to services. Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
