St. George, Utah - Joe lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on January 21, 2011. Born on March 23, 1941 in Escanaba, MI to William Stern and Georgiana Stern (Marcoe),. He had four sisters: Mary Rosalie (deceased), Judith, Eve and Maryanne; and one brother, William, Jr. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Jo Stern (Ciohon) of St. George, UT. They were married in Hales Corners, WI on January 3, 1981. He has four sons: Mark (Catherine) of Bel Air, MD, Matthew of Waterford, WI, Luke of South Milwaukee, WI and Jon of Glendale, AZ. He also has one step-son, Kelly Dow (Theresa) of Reno, NV. He was blessed with five grandchildren: Sarah And Tyler (Matthew) Dakota And Sydnie (Mark) and Sophia (Luke). Joe graduated from South Division High School in Milwaukee, WI in 1959. He received a drafting apprenticeship at the Chain Belt Co. in West Allis, WI, graduating in 1963. He later joined the Harnischfeger Corp (P&H) as a Journeyman Draftsman and went on to many different positions over his 37 year career including: Designer, QA Manager, Plant Manager, Project Manager, Service Marketing Manager and Regional Product Manager. His career required relocation to several areas of the country including: Milwaukee, WI, Panama City, FL, Reno, NV and Phoenix, AZ. Joe completed his career as Regional Product Manager of five states: Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. Having received many achievement awards over the years, he was most proud of the Chairmans Award he received in 1989 for the creation and implementation of the Procare Service Business. After retiring January 1, 2003, Joe and Nancy settled in St. George, UT, enjoying traveling, cruising and classic cars; as well as the physical activities of hiking, golf, bicycle riding and working out. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 29, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah.
