Obituary

St. George, Utah - Josephine (Jo) Roper passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 2, 2011, at the age of 93. She was born on September 14, 1917, in St. George, Utah, to Lamond Welcome and Theresa Cannon Huntsman and was the second of six children. She married Roddy Lee Roper on September 1, 1946, in Enterprise, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple on September 20, 1952. She is survived by her husband, Roddy; their three children: Charmaine, John (Jan) and Theresa Warber (Ron); eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her sisters: Fern, Wilhelmina Billie and Rhoda. She was preceded in death by their son, Roddy, Jr. Buster (Laurel). She grew up in Enterprise, Utah, where she spent her time riding horses and running away from school. She worked during World War II in Glendale, Nevada, and Ojai, California. She loved being a mother and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was happiest when everyone was home and chaos reigned. She had an endearing sense of humor and a quick wit. She served faithfully in various callings in the LDS Church including Relief Society and Primary Presidencies, Relief Society Teacher and Visiting Teacher. She and Roddy served a mission in Hawaii from 1985-1986. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Enterprise LDS Stake Center, 80 South Center Street, Enterprise, Utah. A visitation will be held Thursday prior to services from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Stake Center. Interment will be at the Enterprise Pioneer Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
