Obituary

St. George, Utah – Elsie Joyce Brockbank Beazer passed away on October 23, 2024, at the age of 92. We extend a very special gratitude to her nurse Sue Michael with Pioneer Hospice for her compassionate and expert care in helping Mom over the past year.

Joyce Beazer was born on November 30, 1931, at "59 West" in Provo. She was the 8th of nine daughters of Isaac E. Brockbank and Elsie Booth Brockbank. She attended Provo High School and graduated from Brigham Young University. She married William F. Beazer in 1956 and subsequently traveled to Europe with her husband. They raised their family mostly in Charlottesville, Virginia. She worked as an accountant in the Office of the Treasurer at the University of Virginia and was a member of the Charlottesville League of Women Voters. She was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Relief Society of the original Charlottesville Ward.

After her husband Bill's death, she moved to St. George, Utah, with her children. Soon after, she started a long-time career at the Dixie College Library (now Utah Tech University) and also worked at the Washington County Library. She finally retired from the County Library in her late 80's. She was known for her meticulous work and distinctive giggle. She was a member of two book clubs in Washington County. She also was a regular favorite at the Denver Area Mormon Women's Retreat (DAM Women!) where she loved invigorating conversations about so many topics. She enjoyed her women's group of email friends, especially Ruth whose insights she appreciated. Many will remember her as a gracious host as well as for her generosity of spirit, her good humor, and vivacious personality. She had integrity and expressed her honest opinions but also valued other points of view. She had an open mind about all topics, including religion and politics, and always loved a good book.

During her lifetime, she lived in Utah, Illinois, and Virginia, as well as Italy, France, Kenya and England. She traveled all around the country as well as all over the world with family and good friends to places such as Norway, Israel, Turkey, Guatemala, New Zealand, the Netherlands, American Samoa, and Russia. She especially enjoyed her traveling companions: her niece Sunny, her sister Nancy, and good friends Ellen, Sandra, and Jean. She lived as full a life as possible, until the limitations of dementia began to take over. She was playing solitaire/games, walking and still doing puzzles before her passing. Her quick wit, wisdom and unique insight to basic every day thoughts will be missed. She was loved by family, friends, coworkers, and her many "Brockbank" nieces and nephews. We appreciate all of the family who visited with her at the annual Brockbank Education Fund reunions or traveled to see her. We also want to thank our cousin Jenni, who spent much time with Mom as needed. Mom is now with the "gigglers," accompanied by Angels and family who preceded her. She taught her children the value of living a full life and pursuing joy.

She is survived by her daughters, Kelly Bringhurst (Stewart), Danielle "Dani" Dubrasky (Andrew) and her son, Jason Beazer (Pamela); as well as 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren (plus one on the way). She was preceded in death by her husband, William Frank Beazer; her son, William Joshua Beazer; her parents, Isaac and Elsie Brockbank; and her 8 sisters: Ila Peterson, Helen Weech, Shirley Paxman, Elinor Brimhall, Patty Fillmore, Carol Olson, Nancy Livingston, and Kay Webber. Her passing marks the end of the Brockbank Legacy—the last of the "nine mermaids" has gone home.

We extend gratitude to Dr. Karen Radley. We also appreciate the healthcare professionals at the memory care facility.
