Obituary

St. George, Utah – Joyce McBride Jensen was born February 22, 1942, in Los Angeles, California to Gazetta Caroll McBride and June Parratt McBride.

As a child, Joyce was a diligent student with a love of learning, all things horses, and spending time with her beloved older brother Roger and devoted father, June. She became proficient in the Spanish language and began attending BYU at age 17 where she majored in education - graduating at the age of 20. Joyce's BYU education became a springboard for a lifelong career teaching students and family to love literature and language. After raising her five children, she taught locally at Dixie Middle School, Pine View Middle School, and Snow Canyon Middle school. As a teacher, she was known for her high standards and her excellence in teaching.

Joyce met Paul B. Jensen of Logandale, NV, at BYU and they were married in the St. George Temple on August 15, 1962. She loved his calloused hands and his hard work ethic. Together they were some of the first residents in Bloomington where they lived for 30 years, serving faithfully in many community and religious capacities.

Joyce had an enduring testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ and was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as Relief Society President, and in the presidencies of both the Stake Primary and Relief Society, Gospel Doctrine teacher, and with Paul as a missionary at the Family Search Center. She loved studying her scriptures and talking about Jesus Christ and family history with her children and grandchildren. In her later years she especially loved producing the Family Search blog and newsletter and serving as a scribe for the Bloomington Stake Patriarch.

Quilting was one of Joyce's great loves. She was a longtime member of the Dixie Quilt Guild and enjoyed teaching her grandchildren how to sew. She also enjoyed reading, attending the theater with friends and family, camping, and playing games. She will be greatly missed.

Joyce is survived by her children: Janel Baird, Margo (Steve) Butler (Daughter-in-law), Robert (Gail), Ron (Janet), and Russell (Raimee); brother, Roger; 22 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul B. Jensen; son, Richard; and daughter-in- law, Anne passed away in 1992.

The family wishes to thank the kind and devoted staff at Legacy Village and Joyce's loving friends and neighbors in the Washington Fields 4th Ward for their Christlike watch and care over her.
