Obituary

Santa Clara, Utah - Joyce E. Paget, born October 19, 1928 to John and Martha Schwartz in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, passed away Saturday April 11, 2015 peacefully in her home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Edward J. Paget; sons: John and Ted; granddaughter, Danielle Paget-Portillo. She leaves behind six children: Joy (John) Roberts of Park City, UT, David Paget of Temecula, CA, Debra (Tim) Hoover of La Crescenta, CA, Michael and Peter Paget of Santa Clara, UT and Jane (Andy) Skerritt of Santa Monica, CA. Joyce was a most loved Granny to 17 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many other children (and adults as well) who called her Granny! Joyce was also preceded in death by her mother and father of Regina, Saskatchewan; her brother, Danny Schwartz and leaves behind her sisters, Shelia Trylinski and Diane Cherwinski; and brother, Ed Schwartz. After her marriage to Ed, they moved to Toronto, Canada where she began her career as a stenographer in a typing pool working for the armed forces and assisting returning World War II vets. In 1962, Ed and Joyce moved to West Covina, CA where they raised their eight children through adulthood. After a long career as a stay at home mom, Joyce worked at Megan Medical Clinic as a medical transcriber for 15 years. In 1991, Ed and Joyce retired and settled in Santa Clara, UT. During that time they enjoyed summer adventures up to Canada in their motorhome visiting relatives in the cooler summer temps. Joyce also became active as a volunteer at Dixie Regional Medical Center, sang in the choir and a member of the women's group at St. George Catholic Church, as well as the local Alanon organization. Joyce remained active within the community until 2005, after being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. However, she continued to be a devoted servant to God and her family, including her many grandchildren, all of whom she knew by name. Her children and grandchildren will definitely miss the individual, heartfelt birthday and holiday cards so meticulously and thoughtfully selected by Granny, which always included fresh money in the denomination of their age. Everyone anticipated turning a year older and receiving yet another $1 bill from Granny! Joyce sincerely appreciated and looked forward to ALL HER HOME CARE VISITS from Care to Stay at Home, Zion's Way Hospice, Home Instead, Journey Home, Ministries at Home and the many other friends and neighbors who came by "just because!" She was not only loved, but respected by all who knew her. A visitation will be held Thursday, April 16, 2015 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with a Rosary from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. George Catholic Church located at 259 West 200 North. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on Joyce's behalf to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, Inc. or the Salvation Army.
