Washington, Utah- Joyce Birk Wilson, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away July 4, 2013 in St. George, Utah after a valiant and dignified battle with Alzheimers Disease.
Joyce was born at the family home in American Fork, Utah on March 20, 1934 to John Clyde and Lorna Jones Birk. She loved growing up in American Fork, and has always referred to it as home. Joyce graduated from American Fork High School in 1952. While in high school, she played the flute in the nationally ranked marching band, and was president of the Girls League during her Jr. year. After high school, she attended Brigham Young University, and worked as an operator for Mountain Bell.
Joyce married the love of her life, Kay Harris Wilson on November 14, 1957 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. To this union their daughter, Michelle, and their son , Greg were born. She wore the title "Homemaker" proudly. Joyce was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served faithfully in many callings. Joyce enjoyed any activity that involved spending time with her man, Kay. Joyce and Kay spent the first 30 years of their marriage in Pocatello, Idaho before moving to Wenatchee, Washingtion, and then retiring in St. George, Utah.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Kay; daughter, Michelle (John) Sargent, Pocetello, Idaho; son, Gregory (Keri) Wilson, Kansas City, Missouri; seven grandchildren, three great- grandchildren, and three great- grandchildren on the way. She is also survived by her sister, Beverly (Ray) Louder, Orem, Utah and her brother, Douglas (Donna) Birk, Manti, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gordon (Barbara) Birk, St. George, Utah.
Per Joyces request, a Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at the American Fork City Cemetery, 26 W. 600 N., American Fork, Utah. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, 435-673-4221.
