IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Julie Horne
Mahoney
December 12, 1959 – February 15, 2023
St. George, Utah - Julie Horne Mahoney, age 63, passed away on February 15, 2023, after a long battle with early-onset Alzheimer's disease.
Julie was born December 12, 1959, to Barbara Jane Gillespie Horne and Joseph Feramorz Horne Jr. in Salt Lake City. Julie graduated from Highland High School and attended BYU and the University of Utah. Julie started working in the automotive industry with her father at his used car lot and then working alongside her brother and sister in the offices of Wagstaff's Toyota, Rick Warner Ford and St. George Ford, running all the daily bookkeeping and numbers. She also worked at the Smith's Food and Drug corporate offices. She loved to work and was a dedicated and faithful employee.
Julie loved to be outdoors and loved skiing in the mountains and waterskiing at Lake Mead and Lake Powell. Julie's family often traveled to Las Vegas spending many days on Lake Mead enjoying family and friends.
Julie was introduced by friends to Jeff Mahoney at a University of Utah football game, and two years later they were married on March 6, 1985, in the Salt Lake Temple. Julie and Jeff had four wonderful children together: Megan, Erin, Nate, Trevor.
Julie loved her children along with many nieces, nephews and grandchildren and would spend many hours tending and taking care of them. She loved babies and loved to cuddle and rock with them in her grandmother's rocking chair. Julie loved music and was an accomplished pianist. She also loved to read books, play cards with friends and neighbors and knitted several baby blankets, many of which she donated to Shriners Hospital in Salt Lake City in the name of her granddaughter, Oakley Cox.
Julie loved to serve people and made many close friendships throughout her life, many times bringing people to live with us in times of need. She served in various church callings including in the Primary, Young Women's, and Relief Society. She had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Julie is survived by her husband, Jeff; children: Megan (Jake) Probert, Erin (Tyler) Cox, Nathan, and Trevor; grandchildren: Ellie, Eliza, Emma, Chase, Oakley, Cooper, Hunter, Mason; siblings: Marsha (Bill) Wiedner, Becky (Dan) Gray, Richard Horne, Shelly MacDonald; and extended daughter and family, Hillary (Mark) Boren, Taylor and Millie.
Julie is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Barbara Horne; sister, Jane Horne Archeletta; brother in law, Jim MacDonald; and niece, Natalie Horne.
We would like to thank all those who cared for and visited Julie. Also, Memory Matters of St. George, Legacy Village Memory Care, Sun Tree Home Health and Hospice, and Metcalf Mortuary for their professional and caring services and Dorothy and little Kennedy for the many hours of love and friendship at Julie's side!!
