Justin Richard Maples passed away January 13, 2016 of injuries sustained in an auto-pedestrian accident near Veyo, Utah. He was born in Logan, UT October 24, 1980 to Janice Bergsjo Maples and James Leonard Maples.

Justin's greatest achievement, in which he took great pride, was his son Braxten James Maples. He wanted to provide him with every possible opportunity and made many sacrifices and attempts to change his life to benefit Braxten. He felt it was his responsibility to protect him from harm, and provide a safe environment in which his son could grow up to achieve the goals and dreams he was never quite able to achieve.

Justin suffered from certain deficiencies that were not readily apparent to others, not even to his family. Complications during birth resulted in over four minutes without oxygen resulting in alpha, beta, theta brain waves to be almost constantly "disregulated". This undoubtedly caused him to make decisions that often did not make sense to others, given how intelligent he actually was. This only became apparent when a "Brain Map" was recently conducted. Such internal turmoil undoubtedly caused him great internal pain, resulting in self-medication of one sort or another.

Justin had made many friends throughout his life. He was kind hearted, seeking to help others who were down on their luck or being treated poorly. As an example, at 10 years old he insisted his mother take him to a viewing of a soccer teammate's mother, who had committed suicide. All this to make sure his friend was OK. More than once (actually a lot of times) he gave money to friends, which left him without personal funds. He especially could not stand to see animals mistreated. Justin had a strong sense of fairness. What you saw, is what you got with Justin, and he never apologized for being himself. Justin's smile and good nature are missed by many friends and acquaintances, both young and old, who say that his presence would light up the room.

He is sorely missed by his parents, who never stopped loving him - and never will. We believe he has been taken home to that person who will now provide a place for him where he can now seek to achieve his full potential without the constraints that were placed on him in this life.

Justin is survived by his son, Braxten Maples, St George, Utah; his sister, Heidi (Chris) Gounaris, Salt Lake City, Utah; and his brother, Jonathan (Yoshimi) Maples, Salt Lake City, Utah; and his parents of St George, Utah.

Cremation provided by Metcalf Mortuary, with special thanks to Dan Ernstrom. A memorial service as a celebration of life will be held at a later date, yet to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an account in Braxten's name which is set up at State Bank of Southern Utah or to the Children's Learning Center in the name of Justin and Braxten.
