Karen Arhart Lowe was born in Oakland, California, on January 22, 1949, to Grant and Violet Arhart. She was raised in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Karen married W. Vaughn Lowe on May 31, 1970. They spent their early married years in North Carolina and then moved to Fairfax County Virginia in 1983. After retiring they moved to St. George, Utah, in 2019.
Karen completed her education with a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Karen was an avid swimmer and a member of the University's Precision Performance Swim Team. Karen worked part-time as a customer service rep for United Airlines at Washington Dulles Airport.
Karen and Vaughn were sealed in the Washington DC Temple on January 17, 1978. They served a full-time mission in the Washington DC South Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where Vaughn also served as a counselor in the Mission Presidency. Karen served in many church positions including Relief Society President, Primary Pianist, and Teacher.
Karen passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023, following her several-year battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother Dr. Roger Arhart (Jane).
She is survived by her loving husband, Vaughn; four sons: Dr. Randy Lowe (Jackie), Jeffrey V Lowe (Karen J), Jonathan Lowe (Kelly), Eric Lowe (Paige); and two daughters: Sarah Pederson (Brian), and Jennifer Lowe. Vaughn and Karen are blessed with 17 grandchildren. Karen has two surviving brothers: Dr. Rick Arhart (Barbara) and Jeff Arhart (Mary).
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Sun River 4 th Branch Chapel, 1483 Angel Arch Drive, St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Wednesday, prior to services, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 South Dixie Drive, St George, Utah.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Utah Food Bank at www.utahfoodbank.org as a gift donation in the name of Karen Lowe.
