Obituary

St. George, UT - Karma Hirschi Leavitt, 89, passed away, at her home, February 4, 2010 in St. George, Utah. She was born September 22, 1920 in St. George, Utah to Grace DeMille and Alfred Howard Hirschi. Karma was raised in Rockville, Utah where she had the opportunity to work at Zion National Park for several years. She graduated from Hurricane High School and attended Dixie College. She married Donald H. Leavitt on June 5, 1940. They are the parents of 6 girls. Karma was an active member of the LDS Church where she held positions in many organizations. Some of which include: serving in several Presidencies on both a ward and stake level in Young Womens and Relief Society, serving as the Relief Society President twice in the same ward. She and Don served an 18-month mission in Alabama. Karma was a temple worker in the St. George Temple where she especially enjoyed working with the brides. Karma enjoyed square dancing, literary arts clubs, sewing club, bottling, quilting and a good Jazz game. She was a beautiful embroiderer and she loved to read, but mostly she enjoyed spending time with her girls. She will be missed by her brother, Garn (Orissa) Hirschi of Las Vegas, NV; her daughters: Joey (Ed) Twitchell, Judy (Johnnie) Johnson, Susan (Ken) Jolley, Ann (John) Jacobs, Sherrie (Steve) Cottam, and Donna (Doug) Gentry; 26 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Karma was preceded in death by her husband, Don; a son-in-law, David Stanley Price; 2 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Special thanks to tender care givers: Cameron and Jolene and Holly from Zions Way Hospice. Mom, we miss you already and Tuesdays just wont be the same without you. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. George LDS Main Street Chapel, 166 S. Main St., St. George, Utah. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the chapel, prior to services. Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery.
