IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kedrick Charles
Miller
March 31, 1945 – April 11, 2023
Cedar City, Utah - Kedrick Charles Miller, 78, of Cedar City, Utah returned to his family in heaven on April 11, 2023. Rick was born March 31, 1945, to William and Mildred Miller.
From a young age Rick showed his fierce loyalty and love for his family and friends. He had a special relationship with his sister, Sue, which remained their entire lives. Rick was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life. He served a church mission in Guatemala/El Salvador where he met and served with his lifelong best friend, Tom Carpenter. During his mission he was able to do two things he loved, teach the gospel and pitch fast pitch softball. He was given permission to pitch for a traveling team for the Guatemala National Post Office for part of his mission. Following his mission days, he met his wife, Holye. Rick proposed by carefully replacing the toy in a box of cracker jacks with an engagement ring. Hoyle went straight for the prize and said, "that's a really nice ring for cracker jack." They were sealed in the Los Angeles, California Temple.
Rick and Holye made their early home in Southern California, where Rick had lived his entire life. Rick tried to be a police officer for a very short time, but figured out that it was nothing like his beloved action movies. This is when he found his love for accounting and became a competent CPA. In no time he was made partner at one of the big eight accounting firms, KPMG Peat Marwick. Rick and Holye also started their family at this time. Always thinking of his family, Rick decided to start his own accounting business and many of his clients followed. He figured out a way to work from home and took full advantage of the opportunity to provide for them while forging family like ties with one of his favorite clients, the Shaw family and American Hospital Management Corp. These ties allowed him to move his practice and his family to St. George, Utah in 1990.
Rick's kids were his entire life from the moment they arrived. He had a close relationship with each one of them. They always knew of his unconditional love and support. When grandkids came into his life, Rick's heart was full. He could often be seen riding up and down the sideline at football games nervously hoping for a win. If there was an event for his family, he made it a priority. He was kind and generous with his earnings, helping as many people as he could both with things they needed and other things he just knew would make them happy. His body had to be that big, because it is the only thing that was big enough to hold his huge heart. He was the rock of his family and will be sorely missed.
Rick is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Matthew) Prows; son, Carter (Tammi) Miller; daughter, Stacy (Andrew) Halladay; son, Chris (Lauren) Brinagh; nephew, Chris Dinning; niece, Julie (Brad) Stoney; and grandchildren: Porter, Hutch, Cooper, Tessa, Ali, Korbin, Mason, Nelyana, Zaniyah, Tyker, and Sydah. He was preceded in death by his sweetheart, Holye; parents, Bill and Millie; sister, Sue Dinning; nephew, Jeff Dinning; niece, Danelle Dinning; and all his beloved dogs or as he called them, his "furry" kids.
Rick's character, life, and commitment to his family might be best captured by his last text to his grandkids the day before his passing. It stated simply, "I feel inspired today to text you to tell you to stay close to Christ and always pray."
