Obituary

Saint George, UT - Keith Vern Wilcox, age 80, died Easter Morning, April 4, 2010 at Saint George, Utah from complications of stroke experienced while undergoing heart valve replacement surgery on March 25, 2010. Keith was born June 27, 1929 in Baraboo, Wisconsin, the oldest son of Dale Vern Wilcox and Dorothy Eunayne Bohn Wilcox. He spent his childhood and youth in Baraboo and graduated from Baraboo High School in June 1946. Shortly thereafter, Keith enlisted in the United States Navy. He served our country in Guam, at Pearl Harbor in Oahu, Hawaii and in Japan. While stationed in Hawaii Keith was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by a fellow sailor and was baptized in Waikiki in October 1949. Keiths parents moved to Covina, California, while he was in the Navy. After his discharge from the service, he moved to California to be with his family. It was there that he was introduced to Viola May Weeks who would become his bride. After their marriage in the Salt Lake Utah Temple in November of 1952, Keith and Viola made their home in San Dimas, California, where they resided until 1988. Keith worked as a lineman and utility worker for the Southern California Edison company from 1952 until his retirement. But Keiths passion was not so much with his career as it was with his family and his service to His Lord. He was a Seventy in the church until the quorums of the Seventy were reorganized and he served several stake missions. He went on to serve on the High Council of the Covina California Stake under Presidents Doyle Davis and Ronald Taylor. Upon retirement in 1988, Keith and Viola moved to Woods Cross, Utah. While there Keith served as a temple worker at the Salt Lake Temple. In 1996, Keith and Viola moved to Saint George, becoming members of the Bloomington 8th Ward. Keith continued his temple service, working at the baptistry of the Saint George Temple. He also served as a volunteer at Bloomington Elementary School, helping individual students improve their reading skills. Keith was known for his outgoing personality, his quick wit, and his speaking ability. He loved the Lord and strived to live the precepts of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ throughout his life. His family will be ever grateful for his love and his example of faithful discipleship. Keith is survived by his wife Viola; his sister Janiece Overholt of Grass Valley, Calfornia; his children, Bruce Wilcox of Escondido, California; Mark Wilcox of Orange, California; Susan Davis, of Lucerne Valley, California; David Wilcox of Azusa, California; Nancy Davis of Irvine, California; fourteen grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bloomington LDS 8th Ward Chapel, 3519 Manzanita St., St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Monday, April 12th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd. and on Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the chapel, prior to services. Interment will be at the Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 South Dixie Dr., St. George, Utah. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
