Obituary

Hurricane, Utah – Kelvin "Kelly" Lee Valentine,72, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, at his home in Hurricane, Utah. Kelly was a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was born on February 9, 1952, in Brigham City, Utah to Ted and Donna Valentine.

Kelly grew up in a large family in Brigham City, Utah. He had eight siblings – five brothers and three sisters. All are still living, except his brother, Mark Dee Valentine who was killed at the age of 14 in an electrical accident as he was working in Idaho. Kelly was very close to his brother, being only 18 months apart. It was one of the hardest heart-breaking challenges that Kelly had ever been through. His mother is still living at 102 years old. Her mind is sharp, and she is still doing physical therapy, even though her body is well worn.

Kelly was sealed to his eternal companion, Barby Ranon Valentine in the Salt Lake Temple on October 17, 1974. She was the light of his life. Kelly and Barby raised five beautiful children, and even though he was a very quiet man he loved his children more than they will ever know.

Kelly was a Journeyman Electrician and made a good living for his family. He mainly worked in the Salt Lake City area but was sent out of town to do some very large electrical jobs. He worked on the Ritz Carlson Hotel in Veil, Colorado, the Pima County Jail in Tucson, Arizona, and the Centennial Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada where he was over the whole electrical job. But the highlight of his career as an electrician was when he got the opportunity to work on the renovations in the Oakland Temple in Oakland, California.

Kelly attended many dance recitals watching his daughters perform. He also loved watching his sons play sports – football, basketball, soccer and most of all wrestling. He never wrestled himself but was very active in sports as a tight end and was written up in the Brigham City newspaper many times for his outstanding performance as a football player. He received a scholarship to play football at Rick's College but served an LDS Mission instead.

Kelly was a very faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to the Eastern States, New York, New York Mission from 1971-1973. He loved his mission and mostly served in the New Jersey area. He had many church callings. His favorite was working in the Primary and as a Ward Clerk. Out of all the callings Kelly has ever served in the Red Cliffs Temple in Washington, Utah as an ordinance worker was the greatest highlight of his life. He had many choice experiences with his wife while serving together in the Temple.

Kelly was a very kind, gentle and quiet man. He loved his family. He left behind his wife, Barby and five beautiful children: Crayton Lee, Tausha, Jakobe Wood, Teig Kelvin and Tanae Ranon along with their spouses. He has 18 beautiful grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
