Obituary

Veyo, Utah – Kenneth Riger Konold, 80, passed away June 29, 2026. He was born October 22, 1945 in Los Angeles, California to Elbert Rudolph Konold, Jr. and June Gustavison. He and Marilyn Thornton were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on February 13, 1970. They raised three wonderful children, Margie, Roger Kenneth and Elbert Rudolph Konold, III.

Ken served in his country in the United States Air Force and afterwords he spent much of his professional life working for Hughes Aircraft and later General Motors. He was a gifted computer and electronics expert, always willing to solve a problem or fix something that wasn’t working.

Ken was an automotive mechanic, a teacher, a mentor and a lifelong learner. He loved ham radio and spent countless hours helping others learn the hobby he loved so much. He volunteered in emergency communications helping hospitals and communities during disasters and emergencies. He was a man of preparedness, wisdom and faith.

Ken’s service extended to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he faithfully served in many callings, including Elder’s Quorum Secretary, ward preparedness specialist, communications specialist, and numerous other assignments.

Ken loved his family deeply. He loved Zion National Park, the beauty of Southern Utah, and eventually he and Marilyn settled in Veyo.

Ken is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children: Margie, Roger, and Elbert (Jessica); and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2026 at 10:00 a.m., with a viewing prior from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., at the Gunlock LDS Chapel, 733 North Main Street, Gunlock, Utah. Interment will follow in the Veyo Cemetery.
