Obituary

LaFawn Lew Whitehead St. George, UT - LaFawn Lew Whitehead passed away May 31, 2009, in St. George, Utah. She was born July 10, 1928 to Russell Heath and Ruth Cox Walter. They moved to Los Angeles when LaFawn was six years old. After she graduated she moved to Las Vegas and worked for the US Extension Service and Clark County Wholesale. She vacationed to St. George where she met Chester Wesley Whitehead in 1947. They were married in the St. George LDS Temple later that same year. They went on to have six children. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served several years as Primary President at the Shivwits Indian Reservation. LaFawn belonged to the Civil Air Patrol for 47 years and retired at the rank of Major. She was President of the VFW, she was a deputy for the Washington County Sheriffs Office, she worked for Arrowhead Appliance, and was a member of the Redhill Reviewers. She worked in the 4-H for 35 years. She also worked for Dixie College. She organized Christmas caroling for the neighborhood children, and was a Den Mother in scouts, and she bowled at Dixie Bowl in several leagues. She also worked for Southern Utah Federal Credit Union where she retired after 18 years. She is survived by husband; six children; 23 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother and one sister. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 4, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at the St. George LDS 1st Ward Chapel, 591 W. 500 N., St. George, UT. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., and Thursday from 10-10:45 a.m., at the chapel, prior to services. Interment will be in the Tonaquint Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary 435-673-4221.
