Obituary

St. George, Utah - LaMar Woodbury Terry died peacefully on February 29, 2020 with his eternal companion by his side. LaMar was born September 28, 1931 to Florence Woodbury and Edward Sirls Terry. He grew up among five brothers and two sisters, spending his school days in St. George, UT and his summers working on the family ranch on the Beaver Dam Wash. He graduated from Dixie High School in 1949 and then Dixie Jr. College in 1951. He received a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University, and later earned a Master's in Education degree from the University of Nevada Reno.

LaMar served in the army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1953, spending nine months on the front lines of battle. During his service he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Purple Heart, and three Bronze Stars.

He married Barbara Claire Graham in 1955. They adopted twin infants and gave birth to two children before their divorce. On November 29, 1963, he married Rhodell Theurer, who had two children of her own. Their blended young family grew, and they later gave birth to four additional children. Their ten children are Zane (Glenda), Philip, Paul- deceased (Kathy), Bret (Chari), Elizabeth, Preston, Carolyn (Eric), Steven (Corrina), Mardell (Brady), and Cynthia (Bradford).

LaMar had a remarkable 42-year career as an elementary school educator and administrator, including 12 years as the initial principal of Doris French Elementary in Las Vegas, NV. Throughout his life, LaMar served the Lord and his neighbors in various callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved serving with Rhodell in the Las Vegas Temple baptistry and the Japan Fukuoka Mission for two years.

Retirement years were spent living in their cabin in his beloved Pine Valley mountains. LaMar loved Pine Valley and the cabin he built himself, and later remodeled with his sons. He spent his last years in St. George, UT and finally Salt Lake City, UT with his sweetheart, Rhodell. He had many health challenges in his final years but never lost his kind, sweet disposition or his quick wit.

LaMar left a legacy of love and education with children, teachers, colleagues, and friends. But his greatest legacy is his unwavering testimony to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and his dedicated love to his family - his dear wife, ten children, 37 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
