Obituary

Washington, Utah - LaRena Nye Curry, age 84, was welcomed into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on January 4, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was born in Tabiona, UT, on March 18, 1937, the only daughter of David Edwin and Thelma Davis Nye. She played the saxophone in the marching band and was a cheerleader before graduating from Tabiona High School. LaRena married the love of her life, Lynn Matt Curry, on August 28, 1954, in Duchesne, UT (later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple). They recently celebrated 67 years of marriage. They were blessed with 6 beautiful children, 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. LaRena was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings which she loved. She lived a life full of service and welcomed everyone into her home with open arms. She was a dedicated mother who spent her life caring deeply for her children and advocating for her oldest daughter, Debbie, who lived with Cerebral Palsy. She was a strong proponent in the process of opening Jordan Valley School. She was also very dedicated to her work with State Farm Insurance, retiring after more than 25 years of excellent service. We will miss her cookies at the reunions, Christmas nightgowns, and hearing her cheer on the Jazz. Her energy and love of life was an inspiration. She simply ran circles around us all!

LaRena is survived by her loving husband; children: Donna Leavitt, Gayle Sandquist, Ken (Tracie) Curry, Rachel (Benita) Curry, and Karen (Jason) Kidd; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; brother, Carl (Louise) Nye; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Debra Kay Curry; son-in-law, Greg Sandquist; and brothers, Ted D (Phyllis), and Charles Nye.
