Obituary

Larry Kent Bonzo was born April 22, 1955, in Seattle, Washington, to John C. Bonzo and Rose Wood Bonzo. He passed away on October 30, 2026.

He spent his early years moving with his family with the Army. They lived in White Sands, New Mexico, then later moved to Cedar City, Utah, while their father served. His father died in Vietnam in 1963. His mother later married Marlon Mack Steele Sr. in December of 1965.

Larry attended Cedar City High School and graduated in the class of 1972.

Larry loved being outdoors. He knew a lot about birds and loved birdwatching. He loved cats and helped many abandoned cats in his life. He helped their family dog deliver a puppy that was having a hard time. Once born, the only name that fit the puppy was LK. That's when Larry knew he wanted to become a veterinarian.

Larry struggled with addictions and had a hard life, but he was the kindest and sweetest person to everyone he met. He was a great storyteller and captivated his family and friends with his wild tales and adventures.

Larry enjoyed listening to music. His favorite bands were YES and Stevie Nicks. He loved reading books full of adventure and knowledge. He was an avid Utah Jazz fan and would watch the basketball games, then call his mother and brother, Mack, to talk about them. GO JAZZ!

He settled back in Cedar City from 2010 until 2023, with help from his sister Marlena and Southwest Behavioral Health, then moved to Bella Terra for his final 3 years in St. George with dementia.

He is preceded in death by his father, John C. Bonzo; mother, Rose Wood Steele; stepfather, Marlon Mack Steele Sr.; brothers, John Clifton Bonzo and James Rulon Bonzo; and sister, Barbara Ann Bonzo Comer. He is survived by his sister, Marlena Steele Palmer (Tracy) of Enoch, Utah, and his brother, Marlon Mack Steele Jr., of Hamilton Fort, Utah.

We thank Bella Terra for caring for him for 3 years. Dixie Regional Hospital and ICU unit. We also thank the hospice for helping with his final hours at the hospital. His graveside service will be Saturday, November 14th, 2026, at the Cedar City Cemetery at 11:00 am.
