Obituary

Born October 5, 1934 in Thatcher, Utah - Died February 21, 2022 in St. George, Utah.

Heaven just got a little more fun. LaVere Adams, the master teacher, entertainer, and creative genius left this world to make things better from the other side of the veil.

LaVere was a teacher by profession. He taught math, science, and computers for more than 40 years on the high school and college level. He dangled students out of windows to illustrate pendulums, founded regional math competitions that ran for years, and started computer curriculum long before anyone knew what computers could do.

LaVere's creative juices never stopped. He wrote countless songs to help illustrate gospel principles. He created everything associated with numerous "Roadshows" (mini-musicals as part of a competition) and never walked away with anything but 1 st place. And he dreamed up a stack of games that people are still playing decades later.

Of course, his real joy came from his family. He and his sweetheart, Karelyn, had been married for 63 years. Their children, Jeff (Tammy), Darin (Kristi), Michelle Belliston (Doug), Camilyn Hanson (Jay) and Cherise Oleson (Mark), 16 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren are his legacy. He wrote books to teach them the stories of their ancestors and composed songs to help them remember them. He was preceded in death by 10 siblings and 1 granddaughter.

LaVere was raised in Thatcher and Tremonton, Utah. His father, Thomas Elias Adams passed away when he was 8.  His mother, Sarah, passed away when he was 21.  After graduating from BYU, and teaching at Provo High School, he moved to California where he and Karelyn raised their family in Hayward and Pleasanton. He taught at Canyon High School (Castro Valley), Bremerhaven High School (Bremerhaven, Germany) and Chabot College/Las Positas College (Hayward and Livermore).  He also received a Master's Degree in Physics from Purdue University. He inspired so many students to also become teachers.

He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a mission in the Southern California Mission and later with Karelyn in Laie, HI. He loved serving others, especially if he could teach them. His favorite callings were Gospel Doctrine teacher or Seminary teacher where his creativity could come through.

He will be missed by everyone who ever had the chance to be taught or loved by him. But he will be remembered any time someone reads one of his books, plays one of his games, or sings one of his songs.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 3050 Mojave Lane, Provo, Utah.
