St. George, UT - LaVon VanTassell passed away January 10, 2010 in St. George, Utah. She was born September 18, 1932 to Don and Helen Nyberg in Mountain Home, Utah. She grew up in that area. She met and married Garth Owen VanTassell December 12, 1949 in Mountain Home. Mom was a very talented lady. She could put flower arrangements together with her eyes closed. She loved doing this. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had many callings in the church. LaVon is survived by her husband, Garth, St. George, Utah; children: Mike (Debbie) Van Tassell, Salt Lake City,Utah, Gary (Norma) VanTassell, Corpus Christi,Texas, Elaine (Tony) Schriver, Newcastle, Utah, Connie Adams, St. George, Utah, Todd VanTassell, St. George, Utah. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Helene Usery, Bellingham, WA; sister-in-laws: Kay Nyberg, Salt Lake City, Utah, Jean Nyberg, Pocatello, Idaho, Cindy Gray, Pine Valley, Utah; brother-in-laws: Ray Hyatt, Salt Lake City, Utah and Ray Boswell, St. George, Utah. She is preceded in death by her son, Bradley Garth; her parents; brothers: Bob, Blaine and Pete; and sisters Margie and Nellie. The family would like to thank Kolob Care Center and Rehab for the wonderful care they gave their mother. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cottonwood Heights LDS 4th Ward Chapel located at 2522 E. 6710 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. In St. George, a visitation will be held Thursday, January 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd. In Sandy, Utah, visitations will be held Friday, January 15th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah. And on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the chapel, prior to services. Interment will be Saturday, January 16th at the Larkin-Sunset Gardens in Sandy, Utah.
