- Lawrence Lyle Askin, age 90, passed away on June 8, 2013 in St. George, UT. "Tuffy" was born May 6, 1923 in Ismay, MT, the oldest of 10 children of Hank & Marguerite Askin. Tuffy was a WWII veteran who served in the Navy in the Pacific and came home to marry his sweetheart, Rosalie Anna LaBree. Tuffy was an avid horsemen and worked at ranching all of his childhood and for several years after his marriage. He then worked in the oil fields of Wyoming before finally moving to Las Vegas, NV in 1958 where he lived until retiring in 1987 and moving to St. George, UT in 1989.
Tuffys love of horses carried throughout his life and passed onto several of his children and grandchildren who enjoyed riding and learning his cowboy philosophies.
Tuffy is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rosalie; their children: Tommy (Midge) Askin of Las Vegas, NV, Frankye (Larry) Pepito of Cedar City, UT, Jack (Leesa) Askin of Hurricane, UT; 9 grandchildren: Timothy Askin, Tana Leonard, Jaci Larsen, Darian Kroff, Vincent Pepito, Tarese Bradbury, Alicia Askin, Stephanie Askin, Jack Askin; 9 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Tuffy is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Janet Gayle Hawes; three sisters; and two brothers.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Bloomington LDS Chapel, 1222 W. Brigham Road, in St. George, Utah
