Obituary

Greeley, Colorado - Lawrence Franklin Devenport Jr., age 98, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather, passed away July 18, 2013. He was born May 26, 1915 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gertrude May Lloyd Devenport and Lawrence Franklin Devenport. He married Barbara Claire Crismon, April 16, 1943. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had two sons, Scott Crismon Devenport and Kent Crismon Devenport.

Larry retired from First Security Bank after forty-six years. He served as High Priest, Elder and home teacher in the Ensign and Fourteenth Wards in Salt Lake City and the Bloomington First Ward in St. George, Utah and finally the Quail Valley LDS Ward in St. George, Utah.

He skied in Alta before any lifts were built and joined the first patrol authorized by the national Ski Patrol in 1938; this was the first year the National Ski Patrol was organized. In 1963, Larry and Barbara built a home in Park City, Utah and he helped in organizing the original ski patrol for Park City's Treasure Mountain Resort. He was in charge of registration and Patrol Treasurer until his retirement from the patrol in 1991. He continued with his membership in the National Ski Patrol Alumni Association until the time of this death. In 1988, the National Ski Patrol celebrated their fiftieth anniversary in Boston Mass. and Larry was one of the seven honored guests still actively engaged in patrol work. His National Patrol card No. 538 was the third lowest in the US at that time.

Larry was a member of the Utah Cine Arts Camera Club and served two years as president. He was an avid tennis and racquetball player, backpacker, and golf enthusiast along with his love of skiing.

He is preceded in passing by his lovely wife of 70 years Barbara Devenport.

Larry is survived by his sons: Scott Devenport and wife Jean of Yakima of Washington and Kent Devenport and his wife Tina of Fort Collins Colorado; Four granddaughters; one grandson; two great-granddaughters; and two great grandsons.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Thursday, prior to services at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow services at the St. George City Cemetery.
