St. George, UT - Leah Jane Drake Hill, 101, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010. She was born December 2, 1908 in Clinton, UT to Daniel Newell Drake and Mary Eliza (May) Child Drake. She married Orville Wesley Hill in Los Angeles, CA on June 24, 1924. Leah Jane was raised in Clinton, Utah until the age of 14. She was raised on a farm and knew the meaning of hard work. She moved with her family to Los Angeles, California and there she met and married her sweetheart, Orville at age 15. They were married by the mayor of Los Angeles. Orville and Jane had two children, Pat and Cherie whom they loved and cherished. Jane was an amazing seamstress and hand made most of their clothes as they were growing up. She was fascinated with antiques and bought and sold many over the years. She loved real estate and invested in many properties, which she and Orville would fix up and re-sell. Jane lived and loved the gospel. She was interested in politics and served on many committees and charities. She cared for several women, who were younger than herself, until their deaths. She gave service to her family, friends and her church. She loved her grandchildren and was a hands on grandma, helping her two girls with their children whenever they needed it. In 1996, for the LDS sesquicentennial, at age 88 she was commissioned by the church to sew a pioneer dress which was placed in the church museum. Jane worked hard, ate right, lived right and because of it lived a highly active life up through her 100th year. Jane is survived by her daughter, Pat Gulley, Grandchildren; Kim (Sue) Gulley, Randy (Dolores) Wilkerson, Jan (Larry) Arevelo, Janie (Ronald) Rolfson, Reid Gulley, Brent (Judy) Gulley. 12 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren, plus one due in September 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband Orville; daughter, Cherie, granddaughter Terry, 12 brothers and sisters, and her parents. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Friday, June 11th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services, both at Metcalf Mortuary.
