St. George, UT - Leon Willard Jones passed away on November 15, 2013 in St. George, Utah. He was born on February 16, 1920 in Trenton, New Jersey to John Paul Jones and Francis (Kelly) Jones. He married Lucile Theodosia Paone. They were married in New York City on January 6, 1946.
He served in the Navy Seabees in World War II in the South Pacific Theater with the 145th Navy Construction Battalion and was honorably discharged on December 15, 1945. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1951 in Mechanical Engineering. He worked throughout the West Coast as a mechanical engineer for the Sperry Gyroscope Company, Bendix Corporation, and Honeywell Corporation-retiring in 1979. He wrote his autobiography, several short stories, and a book about caring for his wife while she battled Alzheimer's Disease. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling and loved to dance. For many years he enjoy raising, training, and professional showing of his beloved German Shepherd dogs. After the passing of his wife, he moved to Sun River in 2002 and began the Singles Club where he was an active member for many years.
He is survived by his two children: Sharon (Bill) Lecture of Seaview, WA and Bob (Kristi) Jones of Lake Goodwin, WA; four grandchildren: Rosa (Gary) Martin from Redmond, OR, Ari (Tom) Kumma from Mill Creek, WA, Levi Jones of Marysville, WA, and Jeremy (Megan) Jones from Marysville, WA; seven great-grandchildren: Reese Martin, Trevor Martin, Aisha Kumma, Jonah Kumma, Camryn Jones, Jordyn Jones, and Madison Jones.
A gathering of family and friends was held in Sun River at his home on November 17, 2013. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Research Assn, 12721 30th Ave. E Ste. 101, Seattle, WA 98125. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
